THE POWER OF ONE LIFE
The history is full of great peoples with disabilities. For example: Franklin Roosevelt served for 3 terms as President of the United States and helped pull the country out of the depression through social programs. He also led the U.S. through World War II. Due to polio, FDR could not walk unassisted. Unfortunately, because of the times, he felt he had to hide the extent of his disability from the American public.
In Latino American has of example of Frida Kahlo, international Artist, she born Born in Mexico in 1907 and died in 1954. Frida Kahlo is known throughout the world for her unusual, colorful, and sometimes disturbing paintings. Her disabilities stemmed from childhood polio and a horrible bus accident when she was eighteen. Many of her paintings reflect the physical pain she suffered through most of her life. Kahlo was also active in Mexican political causes which led to her joining the Communist Party.
In Costa Rica we have to children and young people who participated in the recent Special Olympics and won many Olympic medals. This is contrary to the athletes of the "normal" that failed to participate. These people change the world with their commitment and dedication because with few resources and impediments reads achieve things. We teach us to not give up and fight for what we want without is not prevented by our physical or mental limitations.
I believe that the main disability is on the minds of people, even those who have a normal body. We must learn to overcome our complex to live fully. Most of the people found with disabilities can lead a full life thanks to overcome their fears and strive to compensate for their shortcomings. If they succeed because we do not....
